My mom is the type of person that knows how to make every holiday, birthday, and important milestone throughout life a truly special occasion. We always had thoughtfully themed birthday parties, handmade Halloween costumes, cakes made from scratch, we hunted Easter eggs until well into our 20s, her house looks like the North pole at Christmastime, and to this day I still receive a handmade Valentine’s day card in the mail each year.
She’s taught me the meaning of kindness, compassion, and the importance of making others feel special. I like to think that I show how grateful I am to her for everything she’s been and done for me often, but it is nice to have a whole day dedicated to doing just that.
Finding gifts for my mom has always been a piece of cake, because we have the same taste in nearly everything. That makes shopping for her enjoyable for me and I’m almost always positive that she’ll love the end result. I try to mix a few fun items like a piece of jewelry or a beautiful candle with something she’s mentioned she wants like a new face mask or pair of pajamas.
The past few years, my family has spent the afternoon on Mother’s Day at a winery a little over 30 minutes out of my parent’s house to enjoy a bottle of wine, nice weather, and live music. I’m hoping the rain holds out so that we can continue the tradition. We usually end the day at home, celebrating with a casual dinner, dessert, and presents on the back patio.
What are your Mother’s Day plans? Do you have the perfect gift chosen for the special mama’s in your life? In case you’re a procrastinator like me, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite last minute finds below.
Aerin candle | Jo Malone perfume | Le Spec sunglasses | Striped pajama set | Hat Attack straw tote | Herbivore body polish | Mejuri gold cuff | Steven raffia slides | Tom Dixon candle gift set
The candles were gifted to me by Amara and are going to make my mama so happy! Thank you for supporting the brands that support this blog. xx
It’s no surprise to anyone here that I’m a huge believer in brunch. Even better when it includes a patio and loved ones. For Mother’s Day, my friend Sarah Sweeney and I styled a simple outdoor brunch and it’s being shared over on Lauren Kelp today! To make things even sweeter, I’ve got a recipe for miniature baked donuts with a grapefruit glaze that you’ll want to be sure to make for your own Mother’s Day celebrations this weekend.
Head over to Lauren Kelp to view the full post and circle back around to grab the recipe for these sweet treats.
BAKED AND GLAZED MINI GRAPEFRUIT DONUTS
For the donuts:
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 cups granulated sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 tbs olive oil
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup grapefruit juice
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 Tbsp grapefruit zest
For the glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
2-3 Tbsp grapefruit juice
1-2 tsp lemon juice
1/8 tsp salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease your mini donut pans with coconut oil spray.
In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate bowl, combine sugar, eggs, yogurt, vanilla, oil, milk, lemon and grapefruit juice and zest.
Mix wet ingredients with flour mixture.
Using a piping bag, fill each donut well about 3/4 of the way full.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden. Allow to cool completely.
In the meantime, prepare the glaze by whisking all ingredients together. Add additional juice if needed.
Dip cooled donuts into the glaze and place on drying rack to set.
It’s almost that time to celebrate the mamas in your life. I’ve always felt that Mother’s Day is a pretty special holiday. My mom (like many) is a selfless lady and rarely asks for anything from us kids. We’re close, her and I, and I love the opportunity to give her something pretty, luxurious, something that she wants but would never buy for herself.
This time of year is such an ideal time for a holiday such as Mother’s Day, don’t you think? The weather is usually the perfect shade of spring, fruit and florals are abundant, and it’s prime brunching season. In the past it’s fallen on the same weekend as a local neighborhood art fair, and since I can remember, that’s been one of our favorite things to do together.
I’ve put together a list of gifts I think would be perfect for spoiling any mama out there.
